Questions about a figure on this site, a correction to a record, or a model-year you would like covered? Send a message below. Please include the model-year page address and the figure in question so we can check it against the underlying NHTSA or EPA record. We cannot look up individual vehicles by VIN — for that, use the free VIN check at nhtsa.gov — and we cannot advise on whether a specific car is safe to buy. Data questions and corrections are exactly what this inbox is for.
Messages are delivered to the editorial team. We reply to data corrections and coverage requests; we do not sell or share contact details.
Before You Write
The fastest corrections include three things: the address of the page (for example, the model-year page for a 2019 sedan), the exact figure you believe is wrong, and what the official record shows instead. We re-pull the underlying NHTSA or EPA record for every correction report. If the agency record matches our page, we will tell you and show the comparison; if it does not, we fix the figure in the data layer so every page that uses it is corrected at once, and we note the change. Please do not send a full VIN, licence plate, or any document containing personal information — we never need them, and they are deleted unread if they arrive.
What We Cannot Do
We are a data publication, not a government agency, manufacturer or dealer. We cannot open a recall, order a repair, inspect a vehicle, or tell you whether a specific car is safe. For those, the authoritative channels are free: NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 and the VIN lookup at nhtsa.gov for recalls and complaints; fueleconomy.gov for official fuel-economy ratings; and any franchised dealer for recall repairs, which are performed free of charge. If you believe your vehicle has a safety defect, filing a complaint with NHTSA matters — owner filings are the evidence that opens investigations, and this site exists because those filings are public.
Response Times
Corrections are checked in the order received and are usually answered within a few business days. Coverage requests are logged and weighed at each data refresh, when held-back model-years are reconsidered against the launch threshold. Commercial enquiries about the datasets should note that both are public records, freely available from the agencies themselves.
Citing the Source Data
If you are writing about a figure you found here, cite the agency, not us: complaints, recalls and ratings are NHTSA's (Office of Defects Investigation and the 5-Star Safety Ratings program), and fuel-economy figures are the EPA's FuelEconomy.gov ratings. Our pages name the dataset and access date under every table so a citation can be assembled from the page itself. Journalists and researchers may quote figures with attribution to the agency and a link to the page; the underlying records can be downloaded in full from the agencies at no cost, which is also the right route for bulk reuse.
